Telerik Control Suite: Feedback Requested

Heard their ad on DNR.  Has anyone used their control suite?  Do you like it?  I was playing with some of their demos and they seemed pretty sharp and the code behind looked pretty manageable to work with.

I've used it. The menu especially. I had some problem with the menu coming over the various layers (other stuff on the page), but all in all it looked quite good.

I've been playing with it just now, and I think I've downloaded the demo before, their demo http://www.allforsnow.com breaks a little in FF (try the search tab then look at your JS console) but I do know that its an old demo, so I 'd bet it's old code.

They do look very slick though.

They are a must have Control suite. As far as I have found they seem to be very cross browser friendly.

I've used the menu too, same issue as Sahil with layering issues but otherwise a very nice product.

I had to use their spell checker for another job and it works very well too. Even cross browser compatible.

I'm very impressed. I'm using them in conjunction with Intersoft's WebGrid.NET which is (for now) an IE only product, so I can't speak to the cross-browser functionality of telerik's stuff. The interface is nice and the UI produced in top notch.

It doesn't worth $900. I had many problems with menu control which can't be resolved.

For some reasons, I can't GET A REFUND either.

Right now I am testing:

We purchased the full-blown suite from these guys, and we've had nothing but trouble. The text editor is loaded with bugs that aren't openly apparent on their website; for example:
1. when you try to place multiple editors on a single page, you begin to have issues
- it dramatically decreases load time for the page
- the editors (everything for that matter) use cookies and you will soon max out on the number of cookies allowed by the browser per domain

2. Some of the buttons don't work that well in firefox. The custom color dialog just doesnt' work period.

3. Creating custom controls is a pain

4. our license comes with complete source code, however it won't compile until you re-assembly all of their stuff together (they won't give you everything in a single project, they give you bits and pieces)

5. spell checker is'nt the greatest - many words are non recognized, even though two characters are transposed.

6. We place all of our code inside source safe, and as a result we added the telerik files to source safe so that we can easily distribute the files between developers and designers - there are THOUSANDS if files required for this thing, and as a result it will take several minutes to refresh your project.

I would reccoment using freetextbox.com and netspell. They have fewer bells and whistles, however they are both very solid, more organized better tested and far easier to use and work with. We debated back and forth here on which to use, these guys lost out becaus eit was "Free" and "how could something free be better than something for a few thousand dollars?". Shame on us...

It's an old post with old comments, but I hope it will reach Jim and Scott.

Jim, when our products don't do a good job a customer, we've always issued a refund. We stand behind our products and we definitely don't want to have upset customers.

Scott, I hope that you've managed to sort out the things with our support team. r.a.d.editor is much different today and we've eliminated most of the problems you mentioned. I agree with you that v4.0 wasn't very developer-friendly and it had performance issues. That said, in v5.0 and v5.5 everything was significantly improved.

The only problem that still remains is the quality of the spellchecker suggestions. Unfortunately, this is the limit of the algorithm that we use, but the good news is that there are some heuristics that we can apply that will improve the results in the future.

Sorry to hear that you've had problems with our tools. Hopefully you've managed to sort out the refunds and tech problems by now. If not, please shoot me an e-mail at v-terziev_at_telerik_dot_com.
