Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals: SR1 CTP

My friends on the VS DBPro team have just released a public CTP (community technology preview) of their first service release and you can download it here! I've been fortunate enough to have been using this service release for the past two months and it's a rock solid CTP that everyone using VS DBPro (DataDude) should install and try out.

Gert Drapers, the teams architect has a great post describing the service release as well as links to the release notes and docs.

I hope they've fixed some of the bugs.

I discovered that when you saved a project and did a schema comparison to an existing database, it was not 100% accurate.  Though it was 95% accurate, that isn't good enough for use in production systems.

Also, when working with VSS (a necessary evil at times), some autogenerated indexes from the Management Studio Database Tuning Advisor had names that were too long for VSS to handle when trying to check-in a DB project.

This service release does focus on fixing issues identified by customers in the MSDN forums including schema compare issues. I'd suggest installing the service release on one machine and compare the "schema compare" from the RTM version and SR1 CTP to see if it helps resolve your issues. If not, be sure to post to the MSDN fourms so the DBPro team can take a look.

As for the your VSS issues, I'm not sure of this will help or not since this sounds like a limitation in VSS and not VS DBPro.
